ANECDOTES AND CURIOSITIES
The supreme Vujadin Boškov handed over the reins to the great Gigi Simoni, who took over as coach of Napoli in July 1996. He had as forwards Caccia and Aglietti, who were not exactly Cavani and Higuain... In between there were many wingmen, with a great 'Batman' Taglialatela between the posts, Cruz and Ayala in defence and Boghossian in midfield. That 96/97 Napoli started badly, with a resounding defeat at Parma, but slowly climbed back up. In the fourth it won in Genoa against Sampdoria and with a goal by Beto, a promising Brazilian wearing the number 10. Unfortunately, the season ended in a bloodletting, the Parthenopean team managed to save itself that year, but the greatest bitterness was the defeat in the Coppa Italia final in the double-header against Vicenza.
